CTCDHS started as Cape Town Shuttle Services in 2017 with a single vehicle and a simple belief: getting around Cape Town should be effortless. Today we run 20+ vehicles — but the real story is why we built something entirely different from ordinary car hire.
Our story
It started with one car and a long driveway.
In 2017, the founder of what would become CTCDHS bought his first vehicle — a single Toyota Hiace — and started Cape Town Shuttle Services. The idea was straightforward: pick people up, get them where they needed to go, and do it with a smile.
Word spread. The phone rang more often. Hotels started recommending us. Corporate clients asked for regular runs. One car became two, then five, then ten. By 2020 the fleet had grown to over 20 vehicles — sedans, SUVs, Vitos, Hiaces, Sprinters and coaches.
But something else was happening. Every week, guests would ask the same question: "Can we just hire the car and driver ourselves for the day? We don't want to drive — we just want the freedom to stop where we like."
And every week, the same complaints came back from visitors who had tried regular self-drive car hire instead: the deposits were enormous, fuel was their problem, insurance was confusing, and some rental companies demanded two credit cardsbefore handing over the keys. For international visitors, that was a nightmare.
